There will be chickens in the neighbourhood

Just spotted the below exhibition announcement on London by London. Guy Hilton is a Spitalfields mainstay. His previous gallery premises on Commercial St once put on an exhibition featuring an unwashed wine glass whose last user was Tracey Emin, and an open book draped with raw bacon. Since then he has moved to a basement and very rarely answers the bell. It's on Fournier Street, near our office, a street which is home to the very same Tracey Emin, plus Gilbert and George, the Chapman Brothers, Chris Ofili (when not in Trinidad) Samantha Moreton and David from Strange Idols...

"in an extra ordinary art exhibition people are being asked to come to a gallery in east london and adopt a live chicken, the only requirements are that you have a good nature, a nice house and a garden.

the chickens have been rescued from battery farms around the country and are being offered up for adoption by the artist Mark McGowan.

the artist says, 'i got the poor things from the internet, some of the chickens have no feet, others have very few feathers and broken wings, they need a chance'.

the exhibition starts on sunday 26th november 2006 the gallery opens from 5-8pm for a special reception.

there will also be some chicken paintings, photos and performances.
